Vientiane is small enough to be a relaxed and safe environment, yet large enough to offer plenty of housing and lifestyle choices. Social activities include golf, gymnasiums and other sporting clubs, and nightlife. Dining in Vientiane is excellent and includes local delicacies and international cuisine influenced by its French colonial past.

Vientiane offers private international education for primary and secondary-aged school students, and is approximately 90 minutes’ drive from health care in Thailand, which is considered some of the best in Asia and is well-regarded internationally.

Given its central location bordering several countries, Laos provides easy access to many tourist destinations in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the wider Indochina region. Laos itself with its low-density population, rich history and beautiful scenery has become a major tourist destination and includes the heritage-listed city of Luang Prabang nestled on the Mekong River. Luang Prabang was voted by UK travel magazine, Wunderlust, as 'best city in the world to visit' for four years running 2009-2012 (inclusive).
